Both the conversation and the question will be spoken only once. After each question, there will be a pause. During the pause, you must read the four choices marked A), B), C) and D), and decide which is the best answer. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre.

1. M: Linda, except the Business English class, what other classes are you going to take in this semester?

W: I really want to take the Communication class, but it’s so popular that I wonder if it will be available. I still need to take English 201, but I don’t like writing.

Q: Which class is Linda very interested in?

2. M: I have great news for you. John got a job offer from the ABC company.

W: He said he did bad on the interview, but I guess he was wrong. Let’s ask him out for a beer.

Q: What is true of John’s interview with the ABC company?

3. W: I can’t believe you are watching movies. The weather is great. You should be outside.

M: I’d rather stay indoors with the air-conditioner.

Q: What does the man mean?

4. W: Hi, Steve, this is Jean. Amanda has come to visit. She’s staying at the hotel near our school. Shall we get together and do something tonight?

M: I’ll meet my parents in an hour for dinner. How about meeting her at the hotel at 9:00?

Q: What is Steve doing in an hour?

5. W: Exercising is the hard work, but it is a great feeling when I get it done.

M: Exercising at home is hard. I have a running machine at home. I used to use it, but I’ve already got sick of it.

Q: What does the man mean?

6. W: Hi, it’s nice to meet you, too. Are you a new student too?

M: No, I’m a sophomore. You’re a new student?

W: Yes, I’m from Korea. I spent my high school years in Australia. I wanted to attend a college in Korea or Japan. But my parents wanted me to go to an American university. So I came here.

Q: Where is the woman now?

7. M: Nicola is so lucky. She doesn’t have a degree, and she already has a job.

W: Well, she worked at the ABC company during her summer vacation and they asked her if she wanted to work full time. But I’m traditional. I wanted a degree, so I wouldn’t have accepted the offer.

Q: Which of the following is true of Nicola?

8. W: How many languages does Bob speak?

M: He speaks very good French, and now he is beginning to learn Russian. People say that he also speaks a little Spanish and Italian.

Q: Which language does Bob speak well?

M: We won’t have much time. So let’s play tennis somewhere close to work.

W: How about Belleview? It’s pretty close and the afternoon tickets are only four dollars. Shall we meet at 5?

M: Let’s make it 5:15. I won’t get off work until 5.

Q: When are the two speakers going to meet?

10. M: I was looking at some of your trousers. But they are all of bit too long. Do you have services here to make them shorter?

Passage One

Barbala couldn’t put up with it any more. Her upstairs neighbor was playing an electric guitar very loudly again. She had asked him twice already to turn the volume down.

The first time she asked, he was surprised. He said he didn’t know that she could hear it. “Yes,” she said, “it’s just like you’re playing the guitar in my living room. I can hear every note.” He said he would keep it down. She hoped that he was telling the truth. Of course, he wasn’t.

The very next morning, he was playing the guitar very loudly. She rushed upstairs to remind him of his promise. He said the volume was so low that he could hardly hear it. She asked him to turn it lower. He said he would try.

Barbala had no doubt that when she came back to her apartment, the music would be louder than when she had walked upstairs. She was right. So this time, she took a stick upstairs with her. She knocked very loudly on his door. When he opened the door, she screamed at him like a crazy person and waved her stick. She told him she would kill him if he didn’t turn the music down and keep it down. His eyes got big.

She went back downstairs. She couldn’t hear a note. “I can’t believe I said that!” She smiled to herself.

Questions 11-13 are based on the passage you have just heard.

11. What was the man’s reaction when Barbala went upstairs for the first time?

12. How many times did Barbala go upstairs to protest?

13. Which of the following is true of Barbala?

Passage Two

The driver of a primary school bus stopped at a gas station in Ohio because he had to use the toilet. Instead of turning off the engine and taking the key with him, the driver left the bus running. “It was cold outside and I didn’t want the kids to get cold while I was using the toilet.” He told the police officer.

There were twenty kids on the bus. The bus slowly started moving away from the gas station. As the bus moved faster, the kids began screaming. Ten-year-old Donald ran forward to the driver’s seat and took the steering wheel. He pressed hard on the brake and managed to stop the bus as it approached river. Then he turned off the engine. After the cops arrived at the scene, they praised Donald for his heroic effort. “That is a cool kid,” said the police officer, “I told him he would make a great police officer when he grows up.”

Donald wasn’t impressed with what he had done. “Stopping the bus,” he said, “was easy compared to playing Grand Theft Auto III (which was his favorite action video game).”

The bus driver was arrested by the police when he hurrying along the highway to the bus. He was charged with “leaving a child alone on the bus while motor vehicle is running”. The county district lawyer said he wanted to charge the driver of a serious crime as such a large number of children were involved.

Questions 14-16 are based on the passage you have just heard.

14.Why did the driver keep the engine running?

15. Where did the bus finally stop?

16. What did Donald think of stopping this accident?

Passage Three

For many years, the school system in Finland has been very successful. In the PISA survey, which compares reading, math and science knowledge of 15-year-olds around the world, Finland is not only the top European country but also competes with Asian giants like Singapore and South Korea. What makes the educational system in this small country so different from others in the western world?

First of all, the people who are in charge of the education system, from teachers to administrators, are trained teachers, not politicians like in other countries. In contrast to other nations, teaching in Finland is a highly admired profession. Finland selects its teachers very carefully: only talented students go on to a university and receive a master’s degree in education. Finland only takes the best to educate its youth.

All Finnish children, whether they come from the city or a rural town, whether from a rich or poor family, have the same opportunities in education. Education experts claim that there is a very little difference between the very best and the worst students. Two thirds of Finnish pupils who finish compulsory education move on to higher education, the highest rate in the European Union.

Until the 1960s, Finland school system has been influenced largely by its neighbor, the former Soviet Union. Most students left school after 6 years. Some went on to private schools. Only the wealthy ones got a better education. In the middle of 1960s the Finnish government saw the need to change and modernize their education system if they wanted to be internationally competitive. Law-makers made a simple decision: a single school for all the 7-to-16 year-olds.

Questions 17-20 are based on the passage you have just heard.

17.Who are the subjects of the PISA survey?

18. What do Finnish people think about teachers?

19. Which of the following is true about the education in Finland?

20. What is the main idea of the passage?

Section C

Directions: In this section, you will hear a passage three times. When the passage is read for the first time, you should listen carefully for its general idea. When the passage is read for the second time, you are required to fill in the blanks numbered from 21 to 27 with the exact words you have just heard. For blanks numbered from 28 to 30 you are required to fill in the missing information. For these blanks, you can either use the exact words you have just heard or write down the main points in your own words. Finally, when the passage is read for the third time, you should check what you have written.

Japanese airline ANA is trying a new innovation that could make your next flight more hygienic—bathroom doors that you can open without having to use your hands. The airline will roll out 21 aircraft 21) equipped with the doors across domestic fights in Japan beginning next week.

The doors work by having a 22) mechanical spring that allows people to press the door open with their elbows or forearms. It was created in fall 2020 as a 23) response to the coronavirus pandemic. Until now, though, the only place to try one out was at ANA'S 24) lounge at Tokyo-Haneda Airport. And it isn't only the entrance that is 25) accessible without using hands. Once you're inside the lavatory, you can lock and unlock the door with a 26) sliding button (thus activating the lights at the same time), and there's also a handle so you can use your elbow to 27) pop open the door from the inside.

“We have continued to invest in the development and implementation of innovative technologies because 28) the health and safety of passengers and our staff is the top priority,” ANA said in a statement. “The hands-free lavatory door is the latest example of us putting this principle into practice.” ANA hopes to introduce the new hands-free doors on more of its planes, including those that fly international routes.

29) Though the odds of catching the virus on a plane are relatively low, bathrooms are unsurprisingly the germiest (细菌最多的) places on it even during the best of times. Around the world, airlines have tried a range of different approaches to in air hygiene. 30) Many airlines require both passengers and crew members to wear masks on board. Some even suggest that flight attendants wear diapers while working in order to cut back on trips to the lavatory. Maybe hands-free airplane doors will work as a substitute.

备选词汇中,动词有B,I,M,N,O;形容词有F,G,H,J,L;名词有A,D,K;副词有C,E。

而且根据空格前后句意看,因为英语语言能力有限,“I couldn't understand anything ”,...“came home in tears, and thought about dropping out”。

47. 答案:I。 ”, “and thought about... “hide from...”

55. 答案:A。

Liberal Arts Students

Recently, a work report from the People’s Bank of China pointed out that one of the reasons why Southeast Asian countries fell into the middle-income trap is that there are too many liberal arts students, which has sparked a controversy in the society: Too many liberal arts students may influence the prospects of the country.

There are quite different views on the statement. Some people think that liberal arts students are useless and we cannot expect them to develop science and technology to realize the Chinese Dream of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. However, some others argued that " in addition to food, clothing, housing and transportation, people also have a spiritual life, which is closely related to literature, history and philosophy." The liberal arts are the soul of a nation. People need spiritual support. If there is no spiritual support, it is no different from robots.

From my perspective, the national prosperity, especially the infrastructure, needs science and engineering, but it needs literature and philosophy to enrich our spiritual life as well. Therefore, the role of liberal arts students is to promote personal culture and moral cultivation.
