The note read, “I apologize for taking your car, but my wife was having a baby and I had to borrow your car to rush her to the hospital. Please forgive the inconvenience. Here are two tickets for tonight’s concert of Goth Brooks, the country in Western music star. Their face of humanity was restored, the couple attended the concert and returned home late. Passage Two
In the United States, a new trend of education has caught a lot of people’s eyes. That is “The Green Chemistry Lessons”. The main principle of the idea is that chemical processes in products can be designed without using poisonous substances or generating dangerous waste.
Statistics show that though more than 600 colleges have chemistry programs, only about a dozen teach Green Chemistry. Five of them list “Green Chemistry” as a compulsory course. But that number is growing.
Students welcome the idea and the most important reason is green chemistry can bring them job opportunities. Businesses are now seeking graduates with backgrounds in green chemistry because it can help them make or save money and the development, manufacturing disposal and cleanup of products. Just as an expert on education, Mr. Johnson has pointed out, “The green theory on the course book is useless unless it turns out to be profitable. You know, green is also the color of money. We can anticipate(预料)that in the near future, all chemistry taught in the world’s universities is considered green.”
Questions 14-16 are based on the passage you have just heard.
14. How many colleges in the U.S. have chemistry lessons?
15. Why do students show interest in green chemistry?

Passage Three
What is E-bay? The simple answer is that it is a global trading platform where nearly anyone can trade practically anything. People can sell and buy all kinds of products and goods including cars, movies and DVDs, sporting goods, travel tickets, musical instruments, clothes and shoes. The list goes on and on.
The idea came from Pierre Omidyar, who was born in Paris and moved to Washington when he was still a child. At high school, he became very interested in computer programming. And after graduating from Tufts University in 1988, he worked for the next few years as a computer engineer. In his free time, he started E-bay as a kind of hobby, at first offering the service free by word of mouth(靠口碑).
By 1996, there was so much traffic on the websites that he had to upgrade. And he began charging a fee to members. Joined by a friend, Jeffery Score, and in 1998 by his capable CEO, Meg Whitman, he has never looked back. Even in the great.com crashes of the late 1990s, E-bay has gone from strength to strength. It is now one of the 10 most visited online shopping websites on the Internet.
E-bay sells connections, not goods, putting buyer and seller into contact with each other. All you have to do is to take an e-photo, write a description, fill out the sales form and you are in business. The world is your market place. Of course, for each item sold, E-bay gets a percentage and that is a great deal of money. Everyday, there are more than 16 million items listed on E-bay and 80% of the items are sold.
Questions 17-20 are based on the passage you have just heard.
17. What does E-bay provide people with according to the passage?
18. When did Pierre Omidyar interested in computer programming?
19. Why did Pierre Omidyar create E-bay after graduating from university?
20. How does E-bay make money from website?
Section C
Soon after our marriage, we made a revolutionary discovery: time is better than money! This revelation has allowed us to be (21)content in our work or to change that work (22)when it no longer satisfies. It has given us freedom and (23)control of our lives.(24)For some reason, it seems to us that many people have (25)failed to grasp this simple truth. They go to work every morning to put in their time at jobs they (26)dislike so they can buy things. And the more they spend, the more they need to (27)hang on to their jobs.Is there a way out? We think so. How? Simplify! You’ll be surprised to discover (28)how much you can do without and still have more than enough to eat, stylish clothes to wear, and time to do the things you really want to do. (29)When the need for cash is reduced, it’s possible to pursue work that’s rewarding even though (30)it pays less than the high pressure.
