6.W: You were in a rush, weren't you?
M: Yes. I woke up this morning about seven o'clock. Then I rushed to take a shower.  I rode my bike to the train station at about eight o'clock. From there I took the train to work.
Q: What was the first thing the man did after he woke up this morning?

10.M: I just got my paper back from Professor Smith and it's all marked up.
W: Let me see. It doesn't look too bad. This is a draft, right? His note at the top says to make revisions before handing in a final version. Hes trying to help you get a better grade.
Q: What has the man got from the professor for his paper?

Section B
Passage One
Some kids start to drink alcohol at a young age. They think it is part of becoming an adult. They also think drinking is not bad because so many people do it. They feel it is not as bad as taking drugs. It is easy for kids to get alcohol by using false identifications.
Parents may start to notice a change in their child's behavior if the child starts drinking. Kids who drink sometimes stop doing things they normally liked to do. They may keep telephone calls and meetings a secret and not want anybody to touch their things. They do not have the same eating and sleeping habits.
Parents need to stay involved in their kids' lives. They should talk to their children about their problems to be aware of any changes.
Parents can be the best protection. Children who get a lot of love can feel good about themselves. It helps them resist doing bad things even when other kids are doing them. Parents can also help set a good example by not drinking and driving. They can have firm rules in the home that everyone follows.
Give the children good ideas on how to say "no" to drinking, even when they are at a party. Try not to overreact if the child tries alcohol. How you handle it can affect their attitude. It may be helpful to talk to other parents about setting up rules about parties or other events.
Questions 11-13 are based on the passage you have just heard.
11.What do some kids think of drinking?
12.How will a child behave if he starts drinking
13.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a proper way for parents to solve the problem?

Passage Two
The number of people in the world is growing. The fastest growth is in developing countries, where there is already a shortage of foodhousing and jobs. Africa is the fastest-growing part of the world. In Kenya, for example, the population will increase 10 times in the next 80 years.
In Asia, a few countries have begun to reduce their population growth slowly, China still makes up about 21% of the world's population, but it has greatly slowed down its rate of growth. It is now growing at a rate of only 0.8% per year. In India, however, the population continues to grow, and it is expected to be even larger than the Chinese population by the year 2040. The population in India is growing three times faster than that in Australia, Japan, and the developed countries in Europe. In fact, European people are more worried about population decrease than increase. Eastern European countries are growing at a rate of only about 1%.
The best news is that, in general, population growth has slowed down from 2.08% in 1970 to 1.6% in 1985. At the present rate, the earliest that the world could reach zero population growth is 2040. At that time, there will probably be about 8 billion people in the world. It is possible, though, that the population might not really stop growing until much later. With people living longer, the number of elderly will have grown by 15% by that time and aging will become a problem.
Questions 14-16 are based on the passage you have just heard.
14.Which part of the world has the highest population growth rate
15.What are people in European countries worried about
16.What may happen in 2040

Passage Three
Man is a land animal, but he is also closely tied to the sea. Throughout history the sea has served the needs of man. The sea has provided man with food and a convenient way to travel to many parts of the world. Today, experts believe that nearly two-thirds of the world's population live within eighty kilometers of the seacoast.
In the modern technological world the sea offers many resources to help mankind survive. Resources on land are beginning to grow less. The sea, however, still offers hope to supply many of man's needs in the future.
The riches of the sea yet to be developed by man's technology are impressive. Oil and gas explorations have existed for nearly thirty years. Valuable amounts of minerals such as iron, copper and so on exist on the ocean floor.
Besides oil and gas, the sea may offer new sources of energy. For example, warm temperatures of the ocean can be used as the steam in a steamship. Sea may also offer a source of energy as electricity for mankind.
Technology is enabling man to explore even deeper under the sea. It is obvious that the technology to harvest the sea continues to improve. By the year 2050, experts believe that the problems to explore the food, minerals and energy resources of the sea will have been largely solved.
Questions 17-20 are based on the passage you have just heard.
17.How did the sea serve the needs of man in ancient times
18.What is the purpose of mentioning a steamship in the passage
19.What plays an important role in exploring sea resources
20.What is the best title for the passage

Section C
The people who lived in Rome thousand years ago were already complaining about the noise in their city. They couldn’t sleep, they said, with all that (21)traffic in the streets. For them, noise was (22)merely a disturbance. For us, it has become a real (23)danger. We know that the sounds of an (24)average city are loud enough to cause serious damage to the inhabitants’ (居民) (25)hearing—in the United States, one out of twenty has suffered some hearing (26)loss. And all over the world the situation is (27)worsening all the time, since noise increases with the population.
It has also increased enormously in the twentieth century (28)with the development of machines. We live in an environment surrounded by loud planes, trucks, motorcycles, buses, electric tools, radios, etc. that roar day and night up to 90 or 100 decibels (分贝).
Unfortunately, the human ear does not judge clearly (29)the degree of loudness of a noise. A sound ten decibels louder than another one is felt as twice as loud, when in fact it is ten times louder. Since we cannot measure the increase or decrease of noise, (30)we never know to what danger we are exposed.
